Popular Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a viral video that allegedly showed her mishandling Nigerian currency notes.
The arrest was carried out on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, by operatives of the EFCC Kano Zonal Directorate, after the video spread widely across social media platforms and triggered public outrage.
What Led to the Arrest
In the viral clip, Samha Inuwa was allegedly seen using naira notes to wipe mucus from her nose, an act interpreted by authorities as defacement and improper handling of Nigerian currency.
The video quickly gained traction online, prompting calls for investigation and accountability under Nigeria’s laws governing the protection of the national currency.
EFCC Confirms Arrest
The EFCC officially confirmed the arrest through its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, in a statement released on February 3, 2026. The statement was also shared on the commission’s official Facebook page, alongside a photograph of the actress holding a placard detailing the alleged offence.
According to the commission, Samha Inuwa is currently being held at the EFCC detention facility in Kano, where investigations are ongoing.
Possible Legal Action
The EFCC stated that once investigations are concluded, the actress will be charged to court accordingly.
The arrest falls under Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007, which criminalizes the abuse, mutilation, defacement, or improper handling of naira notes. The law provides penalties that may include fines, imprisonment, or both.
The case adds to a growing list of EFCC actions against naira abuse, especially involving public figures and viral content creators. In recent years, the commission has intensified enforcement efforts to curb acts seen as disrespectful to the Nigerian currency.
