Nollywood star Funke Akindele has reached another historic milestone as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, has grossed over ₦2.4 billion at the Nigerian box office. The figures were released on January 27, 2026, by the film’s distributor, FilmOne, confirming the movie’s position as the highest grossing film of the year so far.
The film, which Funke Akindele both starred in and produced, also topped the weekend box office earnings chart, reinforcing its strong reception among cinema audiences nationwide. The performance has quickly placed Behind The Scenes at the center of conversations across the Nigerian entertainment space, as it continues to draw large crowds to cinemas.
This achievement sets a new benchmark for Nollywood blockbusters, surpassing previous box office records and further expanding the commercial ceiling of Nigerian cinema. The success has also attracted praise from the Federal Government, which has acknowledged the film’s contribution to the growth and visibility of Nigeria’s creative industry.
Industry observers note that the record breaking run further highlights Funke Akindele’s dominance in the Nigerian box office space, following her track record of delivering high grossing films. Her consistency at the cinemas has positioned her as one of the most commercially successful figures in Nollywood’s modern era.
Beyond the numbers, the success of Behind The Scenes has renewed discussions around cinema attendance in Nigeria, the ongoing challenge of piracy within the industry, and the broader economic impact of entertainment as a growing contributor to the national economy.
As the film continues its run, its performance is being viewed as a defining moment for Nollywood in 2026, reinforcing the industry’s potential for large scale commercial success while spotlighting the importance of sustained investment and protection of creative works.
