Spotify has announced a major global update to its Lyrics feature, introducing lyric translations, real-time lyric previews, and offline lyrics access in a move aimed at deepening how listeners engage with music across languages and regions.
The update, revealed on February 4, 2026, is being rolled out progressively to users worldwide and applies to both Free and Premium accounts, with some features reserved exclusively for subscribers.
One of the most significant additions is Lyric Translation, which allows users to instantly translate song lyrics into their preferred language directly within the app. The feature, which previously launched in limited markets, is now expanding globally for eligible tracks. By tapping the translate icon on the lyrics screen, listeners can view translated lines beneath the original lyrics, making it easier to understand non-English songs and connect more deeply with international artists.
Spotify has also redesigned how lyrics appear during playback with the introduction of Lyric Previews. Instead of switching to a full lyrics screen, users will now see condensed, real-time lyrics displayed directly on the Now Playing interface beneath album artwork or Canvas visuals. This change is designed to make lyric engagement more seamless while listening and can be turned off through the app’s settings.
For Premium subscribers, Spotify is rolling out Offline Lyrics, allowing users to view lyrics even without an internet connection. When songs are downloaded for offline listening, the lyrics are automatically saved alongside the track, enabling uninterrupted access during travel, flights, or in areas with poor network coverage.
According to Spotify, lyrics are viewed hundreds of millions of times daily on the platform, and the new features are part of a broader effort to bring listeners closer to the words, stories, and emotions behind the music. The updates also reflect the platform’s growing focus on global music consumption, as listeners increasingly explore songs across different languages and cultures.
The rollout began on February 4 and will continue over the coming days, with availability depending on region, device type, app version, and song eligibility. Spotify advised users to keep their app updated to ensure access to the new features as they become available.
